By the time anyone is actually reading this post, it will be several weeks from now. But, since I am writing this post in June, here's the Big News.....I'm Pregnant!!!! That's right, baby #3 is due to arrive in March! So, here's the story. I have always wanted 3 kids, it has just taken me a few years to get Jon on board with that plan. :) I have also always wanted a Spring baby. At my last ObGyn appointment, I talked to the midwife about wanting to get pregnant this summer. I told her I was on a real push to get fit first in hopes of establishing a good workout routine that I can maintain throughout the pregnancy. I was also given a prescription for prenatal vitamins and told to start thinking and acting pregnant. Well, the timing wasn't quite yet right for a Spring baby, but I began tracking my cycles and preparing to begin this journey again. Fast forward to June now. This is the month to get pregnant for a March baby.....this is it...this is when I want to get pregnant. I got pregnant right away with Kate & Gabe so I hoped it would be the same this time. But, I am "old" now! Okay, I know I'm not really old, certainly not too old to have a baby, but I am almost 5 years older than the last time we started this process. Would it be just as easy now? I am such a planner when it comes to big events! I was giving myself 3 months to get pregnant...hoping for a baby to be born in March, April, or May, but preferring March. This is going to get into too much information for many of you, but I didn't journal through Kate or Gabe's pregnancies, and this time I really want to try. Anyway, my cycles were inconsistent after getting off "the pill" so pinpointing an exact date of ovulation wasn't going to be easy. But, I plugged in all the numbers and thought I had it at least in the ball park. Once we were past that date.....meaning these past two weeks.....I starting feeling nausous and having slight cramps. I started thinking, maybe this worked. Maybe I'm pregnant! But then the next minute I knew it was really too early for those symptoms, I was just searching for signs. These past two weeks have honestly seemed to creep by in slow motion. Waiting to find out if I got pregnant....waiting until enough time has passed for the pregnancy test to work.....seemed like an eternity. But, I kept taking notes on symptoms. I took an early read test a few days ago, thinking it should be accurate, but the test was negative. I was disappointed, but I decided that April was a pretty good month to be born too. Jon & I are both April babies!!!! I was pretty certain I wasn't pregnant, but I couldn't shake off being slightly nausous and now I was 'late'. Late didn't mean too much though because again, my cycles have been inconsistent. I decided to take another test this afternoon.....just in case! As you will see below....there were two pink lines!!!! I can't believe it, I'm pregnant!!!!! Oh my gosh, are we really ready for this?!?! :) I guess we have about 9 months to get there! My online calculations show a due date of March 7, but we'll see what the doctor says. And speaking of doctor, here's the other side to this story. Not everyone knows this, but between Kate & Gabe, I had an ectopic pregnancy. For those who don't know what that is, it's when the fertilized egg gets stuck in the fallopian tube and starts to develop there instead of making it to the uterus. Just a couple weeks into that pregnancy, I started cramping and made an appointment with my doctor. He immediately suspected that it could be ectopic and scheduled me for a series of bi-weekly blood tests to check my hCG levels. They were climbing, but not nearly at the rate they should. After just a week of testing we were pretty certain it was ectopic, but the doctor continued with the testing until my levels stopped growing and the pregnancy could be confirmed ectopic. At that point I had to get a shot of a drug called methotrexate to basically force a miscarriage. I was going to miscarry naturally, but the risk of the fallopian tube rupturing in an ectopic pregnancy is too high to wait for the miscarriage to happen on its own. I was devastated at the time, but God knew the timing for our second baby....and knew we needed Gabe! Here's where this all fits into this pregnancy. After you have had one ectopic pregnancy, you are at an increased risk of it happening again. And unfortunately, with the cramping I was feeling and the late positive read on a pregnancy test, I am a little worried this one could be ectopic again. I am calling the doctor in the morning and we will set up dates for me to begin the blood tests, but we are going to pray for a healthy pregnancy/healthy baby!!!!! I want to be so excited and tell everyone that we are having another baby, but I also want to take it slow over these next couple weeks. Hopefully though we will get a great report from the doctor and be shouting our news from the rooftops soon!!! :)
